The Real Rules of Bingo
Posted By Diego | Other News | May 21, 2009, 06:47 AM |
While you would have to have been hiding in a cave to be unaware of the online bingo craze sweeping the nation, you may be forgiven for thinking you know enough already to play the game. Many of us have grown up with bingo, which is often used in school lessons as an educational tool to help students learn. Yet it is not necessarily the game itself that must be scrutinised because, as with any form of gambling, there is still the need to enter a formal contract with the game provider.
It surprises many to learn that an incredible 75% of us do not read the terms and conditions when we sign up for something online. They could be referring to a purchase, a subscriber service or, as in this case, a free bingo account. The temptation is to tick the box labelled “I accept” and dive in to start playing those alluring games that have tempted us in the first place.
Perhaps one of the biggest draws for new players is the promise of free bingo games. High-publicity marketing campaigns have seen free bingo catapulted very much into the public eye, while word-of-mouth recommendations are the biggest contributing factor for the arrival of new players. The joining bonuses are so attractive that even a casual browser cannot help but be enticed.
In truth, this makes total sense, and has been the norm amongst all forms of gambling sites since their inception. But this is fair. Scouring bingo news pages for a negative story is like looking for a needle in a haystack, or, more appropriately, looking for a crocodile in a haystack – something that is not likely to be there at all!
An example will make this clearer: a player creates an account on a free bingo site, and receives £10 as a free sign-up bonus. She buys £5 worth of cards, and wins £20 in a game. The natural desire is to withdraw all her winnings to head out for a celebratory meal, drink, or movie. However, she will have to play (at least) another £5 before making a withdrawal, dependent on the terms and conditions of a particular site. Otherwise, the bingo provider would be seriously out of pocket, and would not be able to offer free games at all.
This is not to say that, to use the same example, our player would have to lose money on non-winning cards. She may score full houses in every single game she plays. The crux lies in the amount of money spent, i.e. the cards bought by a player. In truth this is perfectly reasonable, and is nigh-on the most important of all the terms and conditions. Only 6% of players make any sort of complaint in online bingo, and these are not necessarily regarding withdrawals. In truth, the free sign-up bonuses are understood and adhered to by the majority of players, who merely wish to enjoy the fun chat and game variety that the online game has to offer.
